The Stop is currently seeking (3) individuals to join its Board of Directors and our next Executive Director! These individuals will ideally bring expertise, dedication, lived experience and vision to our organization.

BOARD:

We are specifically seeking additions to our Board of Directors with a variety of qualifications and interests including: Human Resources, social sector/non-profit or Indigenous health, fundraising, and board governance, as well as familiarity with The Stop and ideally, previous board experience. As a community-based grassroots organization, we encourage the applications of those residing in the neighbourhoods surrounding The Stop’s three locations. The Stop’s Board of Directors is a working Board. Each member is expected to attend ten Board meetings per year, participate in committee work between meetings, and commit to serving a three-year term. Additional Commitments of Directors include:

  • Regular attendance at Board meetings and all related meetings, along with a commitment to actively participate in work as it arises and participate in at least one Board committee.
  • Being an active, informed and engaged participant in The Stop’s matters including preparing for meetings, reviewing and commenting on minutes and Reports, attending The Stop’s events and training exercises.
  • Familiarizing yourself with the activities of the organization and the larger food security and social services sector in Toronto, while also building a strong working relationship with fellow board members, management and staff where appropriate.
  • Participation in fundraising for the organization, and volunteering time to assist at the program level as needed.
  • A deep interest in supporting community-based food security initiatives and a healthier more inclusive Toronto.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR:

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will be energized by the opportunity to increase access to healthy food in a manner that maintains dignity, builds health and community, and challenges inequality. The ED is responsible for the strategic leadership of The Stop through supporting its operations, programs, strategic direction, and board governance. The ED will lead and engage The Stop’s high-performing senior management team to foster an inclusive culture where the staff and volunteer community are supported and inspired to do their best work. The ED must work to create a culture that works in support of and collaboratively with the union (Public Service Alliance of Canada). Externally, the ED is involved in fundraising activities and with developing and supporting cross-sectoral partnerships and networks to build a healthier, more inclusive city.
