The Stop began as a volunteer-run organization in the 1970s, and volunteers still play a vital role in every aspect of our work.
Many volunteers have experience with issues facing our community, such as unemployment, poverty, and homelessness. This creates a unique sense of community in a non-judgmental and empathetic environment.
At The Stop, we ask all volunteers to make a commitment of one shift per week, for a minimum of 4-6 months. Most roles available are in our Drop-in, Food Bank, and Good Food Market. Shifts are 4-hours long, usually between the period of 8AM to 3:30PM.
People interested in volunteering are asked to attend one of our bi-monthly volunteer information session**, and will be contacted after that about coming in for an interview.

**For safety reasons, there are a limited number of in-person spaces available for this session. If you have the technology to join online, please do so to leave the in-person spaces for community members who don’t have those resources.
To volunteer at our fundraising events like The Stop’s Night Market and What’s on the Table, please complete and submit the event volunteer registration form. We’ll then email you when volunteer opportunities arise (max 4 times a year).
You’re not required to attend a Volunteer Information Session or make an ongoing time commitment to volunteer at events, and you’ll receive specific training and support—plus a delicious meal!
The Stop’s volunteer program is unique in that most roles are filled by community members who use our services. As such, we have a limited number of corporate volunteer opportunities available in our programs.
We typically reserve these opportunities for our corporate donors and sponsors supporting us at the $5,000 level and above.
