The Stop’s Farmer’s Market

Good food grows locally

601 Christie Street

As of Saturday, January 15th, 2022, our market will continue to operate in an outdoor/indoor model at

Artscape's Wychwood Barns. You will find over 30 farm and prepared food vendors at the market, who,

despite the constraints of the pandemic, have adapted to provide local, organic, seasonal and culturally

diverse food and products. Come visit us each Saturday throughout the year to support your local

farmers, vendors and community

Why we run a Farmers' Market

The Stop has been operating the Wychwood Barns Farmer’s Market since 2009 as an initiative to create space and support for farmers, vendors and artists who offer locally made, ecologically-conscious and ethical goods. We believe that farmers’ markets play a critical role in food sovereignty where community members can use their dollars to directly support local farmers and vendors, shortening the gap between food consumers and producers while building connections with the people who grow, produce and prepare our food. The Stop’s Wychwood Barns Farmers’ Market strives to create space for farmers, vendors and community members from diverse backgrounds and is engaged in an ongoing consultation to address barriers to participation in our space. Read our past farmers’ market newsletter issues here.

How it works

The Stop’s Farmers’ Market is reopening at the Artscape Wychwood Barns on May 22! Find all of your favourite farmers and vendors from 8 am – 1 pm every Saturday.

Frequently asked questions

What can I find at the market during the winter? (Nov - March)

You can find a lot! Many of our vendors who are farmers have root cellars, to keep root vegetables like beets, celeriac, potatoes, onions, garlic and carrots fresh throughout the winter, as well as greenhouse, where fresh greens and sprouts can be grown all year long. Our farmers also provide a diverse selection of ethically produced meat, cheese, eggs, honey and dried foraged goods. If you’re looking to save time, our prepared food vendors offer an assortment of delicious and seasonal foods and products such as: hot coffee and hot chocolate, artisanal breads and baked goods, quiches, pies, soups, broths, momos, dips, jams, pickles, wines, ciders, spirits and more!

Where is the pick up area at the market?

It is at the exit of our market (which is a few metres away from the entrance of the market) on the west side of the Artscape building. Please give a volunteer or staff at the exit your pick-up information and they will help you. Please wait outside while they bring you your pick-up box.”

Do I have to be vaccinated to enter the market?

You must be double vaccinated and show either paper or digital proof on your phone of both vaccines to enter the indoor portion of the market inside the barns. If you do not have proof of vaccine or are not vaccinated you shop with the outdoor vendors (there are about 6 or 7 each week) or use our shopping service through one of the volunteers at the exit!

What is your shopping service?

We now offer a shopping service for those who cannot or would prefer not to enter our indoor market area, where our volunteers take your market shopping list and payment method and shop for you inside the market and bring your purchased items and receipt. To use the service please approach our exit area and one of our volunteers will be happy to help you!

COVID Regulations

Please review our COVID rules before shopping at the market:

Due to the unique multi-use nature of the building, Artscape, the building operator, requires all customers to show proof of full vaccination to enter the indoor portion of the farmer’s market. Please have your 2 dose receipt or QR code ready along with photo ID.

If you will not be entering the building, our volunteers will manage pre-order pickups and shopping lists (cash only) at the north Christie-side door to Barn 2. A number of our vendors have also chosen to remain outside along the Barn 2 walkway (from Christie and Benson).

Please do not shop at the market if you:

– Are experiencing any COVID-related symptoms (fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, loss of taste/smell.)

– Have been advised by a doctor, healthcare provider, or public health unit to stay home OR if you live with someone who has been advised to stay home.

– Have had contact with a probable or confirmed case of COVID-19.

– Are awaiting testing or test results for COVID-19.

Please be patient. COVID protocols take time! We will do our best to keep any lines minimal and moving fast.

Hold onto your drinks. Please don’t eat or drink within the market. The park space is available once you’ve left the market.

Mask up. As per Toronto’s mask bylaw (no. 521-2020), fabric masks that cover your nose, mouth AND chin are mandatory. Please bring your own or take one of the disposable masks provided at the entrance.

Choose your crew. Please shop as a pair to help us welcome as many customers as possible. The park space is available to you when you aren’t in the market.

Be speedy. Please try to keep your shopping to 20 minutes or less and don’t sit at the benches. Don’t forget that you can pre-order from many of our vendors to save time! Check out the links in our vendor roster below.

Sanitize. Please sanitize your hands at the market entrance. Our vendors sanitize regularly to keep everyone safe.

Keep your distance. Maintain a 2 metre distance between you, other shoppers, volunteers, and venders.

Hands to yourself. Our vendors will help you put your order together; there is no need to touch anything unless you’ve purchased it already.
