The Stop’s Year in Review

Written by Kashfia Rahman

This past year has been a whirlwind of challenges and unexpected transitions for The Stop. When our primary drop-in location was closed for accessibility renovations in July, we faced the difficult task of adapting some of our core programs to a new space. Moving our meal services to another site wasn’t just a logistical challenge. Our programs are more than services – they’re lifelines of stability and connection for countless numbers of people. Temporarily moving our food services to a new location was not only a technical problem, but an emotional one.

In addition to this, we continue to feel the effects of inflation and the rising costs of living. More and more households in the city are struggling to meet basic needs, and our food bank has seen a record increase in demand. As you’ll see, over 28,000 people accessed it in the last 12 months – a mind-blowing 32% increase on last year. But through all this, one thing has remained constant: the strength of this special community.

We’re proud to share The Stop’s work and community stories in our 2023/24 Impact Report. It’s a testament to what we’ve weathered and what we’ve built, together. I hope you’ll take a moment to read it you’re a vital part of this journey.
