The Stop began as a volunteer-run organization in the 1970s, and volunteers continue to play a vital role in every aspect of our work.
We offer a wide array of volunteer opportunities, all with one thing in common: meaningful and rewarding work that meets the needs of the community.
Many of our volunteers have experience with issues facing our community: unemployment, poverty, and homelessness.
The connection between volunteers and participants in our programs creates a unique sense of community marked by a non-judgmental and empathetic environment.
At The Stop, we ask all volunteers to make a commitment of one 4-5 hour shift per week, for a minimum of 4-6 months. Most of our available roles available are in our Drop-in, Food Bank, and Good Food Market. Volunteer shifts are 4-hours long, usually between the period of 8AM to 3:30PM.
Volunteering at Events.
To volunteer at our fundraising events like The Stop’s Night Market and What’s on the Table, please complete and submit this online form. You are not required to attend a Volunteer Information Session or make an ongoing time commitment, and you will receive specific training and support (plus a delicious meal!)
The Stop’s Corporate Volunteer Program.
The Stop’s volunteer program is unique in that most of our volunteer roles are filled by community members who use our services. As such, we have a limited number of corporate group volunteer opportunities available in our programs.
We typically reserve these opportunities for our corporate donors and sponsors supporting us at the $5,000 level and above. If you’re interested in sponsoring one of our fundraising events—including Night Market and What’s on the Table—at the $5,000+ level and unlocking these opportunities, please contact Cara at 416-652-7867 ext. 222 or email@example.com.
Alternative Corporate Volunteer Opportunities:
If you would like to volunteer your staff outside of our programming, we always need volunteers at our fundraising events! Please fill out this form and we will email you with these opportunities (max 4 times a year). We do not require the $5,000 support to have a group volunteer at our events.
We also encourage you to imagine unique volunteer opportunities that are tailored to your employees’ skill-sets. As an example, we’ve had a design team from FreshBooks lead our fundraising department in a workshop on user experience design thinking. We do not require the $5,000 support for these types of opportunities.
