become a member
Why become a member?
Two reasons. Firstly, we need to have members to operate as an organization. Members are the people responsible for electing the Board of Directors every year. Secondly, and more important, having members gives us a way to consult with community supporters about our work.
Can anyone can be a member of The Stop?
Everyone, no matter what their involvement with stop (food bank users, program participants, donors, volunteers or interested individuals) can be a member. All you have to do is to support our mission. We make as few distinctions as possible, because we value everyone's opinion equally. Organizations that support our work can also become members.
Membership is free, though we ask for a $50 donation from organizational members.
Does membership "have its privileges?"
In addition to some official stuff (getting a membership card, electing Board members at the AGM, running for the Board yourself), as a member you also have the right to be consulted about what we're doing. So this isn't just something we say, we are committed to holding two community dinners per year to ask your advice (that's the Annual General Meeting dinner plus one other). You also have the right to be informed, so we'll send you a regular newsletter to keep you in touch about programs and events you might want to get involved with. You have the right to participate in The Stop's programs and to be treated respectfully when you're at The Stop. And, finally, you always have the right to drop by, have a cup of coffee and a conversation at our drop-in.
